On-Demand Course
Evidence Informed Approaches to Literacy for Non-Speaking Autistic Children
2025/2026
We’re pleased to offer an on-demand training workshop led by Dr Sharon Arnold, exploring evidence-informed approaches to literacy for non-speaking autistic children.
Through recorded video training and downloadable slides, this thought-provoking session introduces practitioners to what research can tell us about the reading potential of autistic children who are minimally verbal. It invites participants to reflect on their own beliefs, literacy practices, and the wider school arrangements that shape opportunities for reading and communication development.
Grounded in an understanding of both research and classroom practice, the workshop considers some of the barriers that can make learning to read more challenging for children who are minimally verbal, and explores how these barriers can be addressed in meaningful, supportive ways.
In this workshop, you will learn:
What current research suggests about the reading potential of non-speaking and minimally verbal autistic children
How to reflect on your own practice and your school’s approach to literacy and communication support
Some of the barriers that can affect reading development, teaching, and access to learning
Ways to support reading skills across the curriculum and strengthen inclusive classroom practice
This session offers a valuable opportunity to deepen your understanding, challenge assumptions, and develop more inclusive, evidence-informed approaches to literacy teaching for autistic pupils who are minimally verbal.
On completion of the course and a very short feedback form, you will receive a course completion certificate.
This package comprises a two recorded 2 hour workshops and downloadable slides for just £10
