How will my story be captured?
The participants involved in this project will be video-recorded responding to the following question:
What do reading and writing help you do?
To amplify the voices of non-speaking people with complex needs, we would like to share these videos widely. This will also help highlight the importance of teaching literacy to all.
Where will the videos be shared?
The Teach Us Too and BackPocketTeacher websites and through other aspects of their work related to young people with complex needs. We are also eager to obtain support and publicity for Transformational Tales from local, national, and international news/media outlets.
Can a person be involved without their identity being shared?
Yes, a person can be involved without their real name or identifiable features being shared. In this circumstance, the participant will be referred to by a pseudonym and their face will be pixelated.
How will my data be stored?
All information collected about participants during the project will be stored safely and securely in line with the Teach Us Too GDPR Policy.
What if I say ‘yes’ and then change my mind?
If you would like to withdraw from the project you can do so at any time without having to give a reason. All of your data and video recordings will be permanently deleted.
Who needs to complete the consent form?
If a participant is under the age of 18, the consent form needs to be completed by the parent/guardian of the young person. If the participant is over the age of 18 and able to, the consent form should be completed by the AAC user themselves. Schools may initiate participation in this project but must consult fully with the young person and their family to ensure they understand the project and ensure that the appropriate consent form is completed prior to filming.
