Inclusive Literacy Toolkit
This FREE downloadable toolkit brings together five practical, classroom-ready tools designed to strengthen literacy provision for pupils who experience the greatest barriers to print and written expression.
Developed specifically with special school contexts in mind, the tools support staff to examine:
The literacy environment
The pupil’s daily experience of literacy teaching and activity
What a pupil can already do as a reader
What a pupil can already do as a writer
An accompanying Inclusive Literacy Action Planning tool then supports teams to turn reflection into practical steps, helping staff identify immediate, medium-term and longer-term actions to strengthen access to reading and writing.
Used together, these tools help bridge the gap between what is displayed, what is offered, and what is genuinely accessed.
If literacy opportunities are meaningful for the pupil who faces the greatest barriers, they are more likely to be meaningful for all.
