Meet The Team
Founder
Teach Us Too was founded in 2018 by a young man who was determined to make a difference to the lives of others like him.
Jonathan’s educational journey challenged the assumptions placed upon him from an early age. Once given access to meaningful literacy teaching, he progressed rapidly — moving from basic letters to whole‑word reading, phonics, spelling and full written communication. By the age of 9 he was writing everything he wanted to say using a spelling board, and he later joined his peers in mainstream education on a reduced timetable that enabled him to learn alongside his peers while managing his complex needs.
His love of language continued to grow, and after completing school he went on to study Creative Writing at Bath Spa University. As he reached adulthood, Jonathan was formally assessed by the Court of Protection to have capacity, giving legal recognition to the voice he had already been using to advocate for change.
Jonathan’s literacy journey didn’t end once he achieved his own goal of being able to read and write. Knowing that his experience was not unique, he established Teach Us Too. Jonathan died in the summer of 2025, but the charity continues to pursue his vision of an education system where every child, regardless of their communication needs, is taught to read and write.
