What do we mean by Access to Writing?

Access to writing empowers learners to participate actively in the literacy process and develop foundational skills necessary for future reading and writing success. Through writing activities, learners can express themselves, communicate ideas, and make meaning of the world around them. Our role is to ensure learners have opportunities to understand that what I say/think, I can write or record. This will include the use of inclusive approaches, adaptive resources, alternative pencils, assistive technology, supportive environments, and individualised instruction to facilitate the whole writing process.

Useful Resources

Learners should experience everything from generating ideas, mark making, free writing, scribbling, playing with the alphabet to developing and communicating their ideas to different audiences and for many purposes.

Offering meaningful and scaffolded writing experiences, such as journaling, creative writing, and functional writing tasks, is essential for developing composition skills and fostering self-expression”
