The week after the workshop I spent time in a special school and interacted with the children with a PMLD label in a completely different way to how I would have before, keeping Jonathan’s story in my mind throughout the week... In my teaching career, I want to make sure every child I come across has the opportunity to learn to read and write... Thank you for changing my preconceptions.

Thank you so much, this has been the best lecture I have ever had!

I will definitely be questioning advice from the ‘more experienced’... ensuring that I personally support every pupil to reach their potential.

I now know to ask more questions and not to accept when others tell me there is nothing more we can do... There is always something more we can do and more that each child is able to achieve.

It was really eye-opening to see the misconceptions people can have about a diagnosis... I’ll never underestimate a student who has been identified as having special educational needs again.

The workshop was one of the most eye-opening things I have ever had the pleasure to be part of... It reminded me never to make an opinion about someone based on their outward appearance or initial introduction.

I was lucky enough to hear about your journeys and felt inspired and empowered. I can now take the advice and information into my own teaching and make sure that I do not leave anyone out.

This session reminded me never to assume a child’s ability without trying to find out for myself... and of the importance of persistence when finding a way to improve their educational experience.

The session has left one message imprinted on my brain: parents know their children better than anyone. I want to provide every child with the opportunity to achieve anything they want.

Jonathan’s story challenged my assumptions about what pupils labelled with PMLD may be capable of achieving when they are given appropriate access, communication, teaching and high expectations.

This session has encouraged me to think more carefully about removing barriers, creating opportunities for all learners and ensuring that every child feels that reading and writing are for them.
