This phase supports pupils in developing the ability to read with accuracy, pace and expression, while also deepening their understanding of texts. Through repeated reading, modelling, and discussion, learners are supported in making inferences, identifying key information, and engaging with a range of texts at an appropriate level. This phase is inclusive by design, providing differentiated support to ensure that all pupils, including those with SEND or EAL, can build both fluency and meaningful comprehension.
