Dr Sharon Arnold

ALN/SEN School Improvement Adviser

We are delighted to welcome Dr Sharon Arnold as an ambassador for Teach Us Too.

Sharon's work exemplifies the belief that every learner deserves access to high-quality, aspirational education. Drawing on extensive experience across education and school improvement, she has been a passionate advocate for inclusive approaches that enable learners with additional learning needs to thrive. Her research and professional practice continue to demonstrate the power of literacy, relationships, and high expectations in opening up opportunities for learners who are too often underestimated. We are thrilled to have Sharon supporting our mission to ensure that every child is taught to read and write.

My first role in specialist education was as a lunch time supervisor for children with additional learning needs (ALN). I then became a 1:1, a TA, and a teacher, before moving into school leadership and school improvement. My current role is to empower educators to deliver aspirational provision for learners with ALN, through high-quality professional learning and development.

What I have learned, is that everybody has the power to change a life for the better, regardless of their role or perceived status.

My research and my experiences in the classroom have shown time and time again that inclusive approaches to literacy, which promote relational equity between the teacher and the learner, can create the conditions for non-speaking pupils to access print, develop genuine reading skills, and express their own voice through literacy.

I have so much respect for the inspirational values-led work of Teach Us Too and was delighted to be asked to act as an ambassador.
